TL;DR

Problem
An independent interview show about Chinese communities in Ottawa and across Canada needed a poster that tied it to the city and could hang on set.
Solution
An ink-print Parliament Hill with the red English title threaded through the stonework, plus bilingual credits and the show's platforms.
Result
The poster was printed, framed and mounted on set as the backdrop for recorded episodes.

Ottawa Talks (渥談會, Chinese Voices in Canada) is an independent interview show hosted by my friend Frank Yang, a YouTuber. Each episode is a conversation with someone from the Chinese community in Ottawa or elsewhere in Canada. I designed a poster for the show that works as promotion and as the backdrop on set.

The poster

To tie the show to the city, I built the poster on Ottawa’s best-known landmark, Parliament Hill. The building started as an AI-generated image, and I used Nano Banana to turn it into a high-contrast black-and-white ink print. With the colour and photographic detail gone, the stonework reads like a woodblock print, which fits a show of long, quiet conversations.

The hardest part was weaving the English title into the building instead of laying it on top. I broke the red letters apart and layered them through the architecture. The letters of “Ottawa” pass in front of and behind the Parliament buildings, and the long stem of the T in “Talks” drops through the stone facade. Because the red type and the grey stone overlap in both directions, the name looks built into the landmark.

The Chinese title sits in the top left. Along the bottom are the bilingual subtitle, the host credit and icons for the four platforms the show is on: TikTok, YouTube, Bilibili and Xiaohongshu.

On set

The finished poster was printed, framed and mounted on set, where it is the backdrop for recorded interview episodes.
